Try it step by step

  • Begin with a question suited to the situation.
  • Listen for one detail and ask a related follow-up.
  • Share a brief detail of your own so the exchange is balanced.

Example to adapt

  • How was your journey? Oh, you came by train. Was it busy this morning?

Self-check

  • Did I answer the actual question?
  • Did I include a reason, detail or example where appropriate?
  • What one thing will I try differently next time?
