Try it step by step

  • Divide a long sentence into two shorter ideas.
  • Emphasise the words that carry the main meaning.
  • Repeat at a comfortable pace and check whether the message is easier to follow.

Example to adapt

  • The train was late. I called my manager before the meeting started.

Self-check

  • Did I answer the actual question?
  • Did I include a reason, detail or example where appropriate?
  • What one thing will I try differently next time?
