The town depends on tourists and also resents them. In summer the streets fill with visitors who spend money in the cafés and shops, which keeps many families in work. At the same time, rents rise, the quiet squares grow loud, and locals start planning their own lives around the crowds. There is no easy answer. The town needs the income, but it also needs to remain a place where people actually live.
